Daniel Schmid was born in 1941 in Flims, Switzerland. He grew up in the "Hotel Schweizerhof", which has been owned by his family for generations.
He studied History and comparative literature at the Freie Universität Berlin 1962-1967 and went to the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin DFFB 1967-1969. Since 1974 he lives in Paris and Switzerland. Daniel Schmid died on August 6th 2006.
